Operation Gratitude History: In 2006 our son Andrew joined the Army, in July he was off to Basic Training in Fort Benning Georgia. Letters flew back and forth between us. He was so lonely and felt so removed from everything and everyone he loved. That was when the idea of sending letters to our military personnel from Parkview originated. Parkview agreed that it was a worthwhile ministry and started promoting Operation Gratitude in the bulletin and during the slide presentation prior to church services. After the first year, we had a list of 20 men and women currently serving this great country of ours. At that point, we asked for the Leadership of the motorcycle club to sponsor this ministry. They brought it to the club and have been supporting Operation Gratitude since then.
Operation Gratitude Present:
We now have 52 persons (and growing) that we are currently ministering with letters and small packages. The church is also supporting us with offering the letter campaign to the whole congregation. Five times a year, we set up our booth with pictures and bios of all the servicepersons that we support. We hand out a package to anyone interested in writing to one of our heroes that includes a stamped, addressed envelope complete with letterhead and instructions to anyone interested in writing to one of our heroes. We have received feedback from some of our men and women and many hugs when they return back to our area. They feel so blessed to have us supporting them back home. We are very thankful for the support that we get not only from Parkview and the congregation, but for the Parkview Motorcycle Clubs involvement with support both monetarily and for the hours of volunteer work that they have committed to.
As we all know, it takes a special kind of person who is willing to risk their lives for others. Those are our heroes serving this country protecting the freedom that we enjoy each day! We feel a deep gratitude for all the sacrifices of our servicepersons and their families.
Please keep all our military personnel in your prayers daily for strength, protection, and most of all, their salvation.
There are forms at the information center at church if you would like to add someone you know and love to our list. Please fill it out and attach a picture and return it to the information desk or email it to sherry@yoleo.com. You may call us Leo and Sherry Koulouris at 815-354-3499.
